Hi,

Fitting my hrc exhaust that I've just finished tidying up (from Ben in Aussie). Am I right in saying the flange bits are held in by the plate that bolts to the exhaust stud, and then the pipe itself is held in that by the spring? See below pictures.

Next question: these rear pipes look funny, I can't quite see how they fit - thinking they replace the stubby rear manifold as well yes? And then how does one get that off? Haynes says universal joint which I have, but still struggling!!! Any tips?

Lastly just checking I am in fact putting it together right!!?

I've now taken the shock out and moved the subframe a bit, got all but the one on the furthest right hand side....not getting anywhere on this one with my universal and a mix of adapters....I don't think I have the tool to remove the swingarm...

there is no need to remove the shock or swingarm as far as im aware.

been a while since ive removed the stubby but with the right tools youll unbolt it.

Shock removal should give you bags of space. not sure what your struggling to do?

and yes the springs hold it to the flanges that bolt into the head.

To undo the far right bolt :-). I can't get an extension bar in there as the pipe blocks it, and using a universal jointi can get it in but only have around 2-5 degs of movement before the handle hits the pipe, and doesn't give me enough turn to go back and do it again. I've found tyga's website who have said this is the hardest one, and recommend a short handle ratchet on a universal knuckle adapter rather than what I have which is a universal socket...thinking of heading down tomorrow morning to pick up those bits and see if that helps. Also noted that you can get things called wobble bars that allow 15deg movement - worth trying? Once I get the manifold out itl be sweet, just that the pipes themselves are limiting access to the last bolt (dropping the shock out made the other three easy as pie, and dropping the shock was easy since the exhaust was removed

What size sockets you using? ive never had a problem if im honest using the smallest (3/8th's is it?) sockets and extension bars

I have not taken one off in a long time,But i think i used a 1/4 drive socket set with nuckle.

I have a 1/4" drive socket that can't even get in there due to the manifold pipe (for the socket to get in there needs to be at around 100 degree angle), also have a universal socket, ie long handle with the forwards and back movin bit at the end. I can get this on to the nut, but not enough movement due to hitting the frame and manifold pipe.

The size of the socket itself doesn't usually determine the physical length of it though does it? That's why I'm thinking to go and get one specifically with a short handle?

No extension bar more than about 20mm will get in there as it's angled towards the manifold pipe., unless you used one of these wobble ones I'm reading about? (Must say I'm tempted!)

Done! The key was the 4 way universal socket bit :-) made life so much easier!

It was a bit trickey getting everything lined up, but got there. Man those springs are hard to get on! Also really happy with the exhaust paint job - comes up nicely I think, pity about sone small pits of pitting.

There does seem to be some leakage at the mid join between the header pipes front and rear, and where they fit into the rear section - should the hrc system have gaskets there?

i cant remember off hand.. i dont think there are any gaskets, after-all they are race systems, not for road use. Maybe a bit of wiggling will allow it to seat better.
