Hi all, on inspection today of my nc29 engine block, I noticed a tiny corner broken off under a shell bearing (transmission side) please see attached photo on the right hand side of the photo, right hand side of shell bearing area.
Could this be a problem?
Thanks in advance

Personally I would try to find the broken part and replace it

I'd clean up the sharp edges with a green stone then try to find the broken bit.
I don't think the missing bit is big enough to be a worry as far as bearing support goes though.

I would replace the bottom half but there not something I have seen people selling and it would be to expensive to buy a whole engine.
I have found the broken off part, will clean up edges, what kind of issues may occur so j know what to keep an eye on it?
Thanks

Look closely in the middle of the keep at the bottom of the oil channel there appears to be some sort of debris there see if you can scrape it off without it falling into the bottom of the engine and find out what it consists of

the engine is currently in peices and undergoing a complete overhaul. I brought the bike about 6 or more months back and im slowly re condintioning each part, the engine is where im currently at, by the looks of it, water had got in around the head gasket and yes there is a lot of gunk at the bottom. just hoping the chip isnt going to affect bearing support or even leakage, if its possible to leak from there. not sure if it will effect the flow of oil to the bearing shell.

hi luke, when the bearing seats etc are machined into the engine casings its done with the casings fixed together. so if you put two casings together off different engines you could find a minute lip in bearing seats which will cause problems with the shells, gears and crank etc. the chip doesn't look bad as long as its not interfering with the bolt hole. it looks like a fresh chip probably caused on disassembly.
