i think a lot of it is ethanol in the fuel... if possible find a a gas station that has ethanol free fuel / lowest ethanol possible.. it has a tendancy to ruin older rubbers.
personally id leave it alone but its your call.. you can always change it at a later date.. not sure how the actual tap part is sealed and even if there are replacement gaskets / orings etc available / can be made to fit.
