Winter Suspension Upgrade recomendations

Hi all,

Just want to pick your brains. I will be stripping and re fitting my suspension on my NC29 this winter.

I am 6ft1 and 105kg - although I know that fairly big for a 400 rider its just for fun quick rides

I have looked at the option of replacing the shock with a 600 item. Which looks the likely way I will go.

But for the front end what would you guys suggest? The catridge emulators?

Just wondering what you would think the best options would be. I dont really want to go the route of changing the forks to RVF or CBR600 forks if possible

Cheers

BJ :peace:

Hi. I guess it depends on your budget but maybe just a set of new springs would be enough for the occasional use. Replacing the front tired springs helps handling immensely and stops that ploughing effect. I bought a set from Graeme France and honestly its the most decent investment i have gave to the bike. Its worth mentioning that later 29s have a different set of forks so springs are shorter. Although quite a lot and maybe slightly odd if it looks like mine, I can recommend the rear Shock Factory M Shock by Mike Capon. The difference in handling from the rear is superb.

Whatever you do get the shock and forks set up for your weight and riding style, don't just bung a shock in and hope it'll work.

Interested to see someone that's bought one for an Nc29 as I've been looking at getting one after seeing them in Practical Sportsbikes. It does look upside down, but as you say if it works well why worry? Nice piece of kit. Need new fork springs too, May try the Graeme France ones.

Yes the M shock seems to do the business. I'm not a suspension expert but can tell you it just feels right. Why its upside down I have no idea but the instructions I got did actually say it was built that way. I emailed Mike Capon about this and he phoned me from France within minutes to explain it was meant to be this way. I will say that while it does work good actually adjusting the pre-load is an absolute pain in the arse! Fitting was a breeze and it really did just slide into place with very little waggle needed to get the bolts in place, from the ckokked up rear wheel after the originals removal. I had to soften it a turn and take a few clicks off the rebound factory set settings after a couple of weeks bedding in and thinking about it, before I was 100% happy. I thought there maybe higher rear tyre wear but that doesn't appear to be the case. If buying one maybe discuss your requirements first with Mike.
