NC35 Struggles Past 5k Revs

Drove the bike into work this morning and all perfect. On the way out of work I noticed my indicators/neutral light/ side stand light not working and as soon as the bike hits 5k revs it loses all power. Checked the battery and I'm getting 13.8 volts. Rectifier seems to be working as well. Checked the earths and theyre all fine. Before I go at it again tomorrow, has anyone experienced this or know what would cause it? might save me an hour or two of head scratching

Fuse has blown and possibly a wire shorting caused it, check the brake wiring around the rear headers sometimes this comes loose and melts on the exhaust

I checked the fuses and theyre all good. started the bike this morning and all dash lights working, revved it to about 8k when driving, lost power and the dash lights went out

Unplug the rear brake light switch and see what happens. Slightly surprising that the fuse hasn't blown, but I agree with DM's post. I once had the rear brake light switch wiring melt on the headers, and it did exactly the above. However, also note that (as you know from the symptoms) the dash lights, front brake light switch, indicator relay and rear lights are on the same circuit, so you have plenty of things to cause a somewhere. I'd still bet on the rear brake switch as being the most probable.

If the dash lights are out, then the power to the speedo is as well and this is going to cause it to go to "limp" mode - where it cuts 2 cylinders and you'll struggle to rev it past 5.5k revs

So - fix that wiring issue and you'll be sorted

Cheers lads! The rear brake light switch cable was fairly melted with wires exposed so I replaced the wiring. There was a 30 amp fuse in the fuse box instead of a 10a which is probably why it didn't blow.. also found a few frayed wires under the speedo which wouldn't help the cause

So, I wonder if a previous owner was a muppet and stuffed a larger fuse in to stop it blowing? You're lucky something nasty didn't happen. The only 30A fuse on the bike should be next to the main wiring connector. The ones in the fuse box should (I think) be a 10A and three 15A, plus a spare of each. Anything bigger is asking for trouble!
