Nc30 not idling or running
Ok since my last lot of posts I have removed the carbs and cleaned them out with new float bowl gaskets. Having followed camos guide it set the air fuel mixture , checked and cleaned the jets and checked the floats.
Replaced the carb inlet rubbers as mine had gone hard and reassembled . New air filter fitted and fresh fuel in the tank.
The bike has trouble starting and when it does it dosent want to idle and I'm messing about with the throttle and choke to prevent it from stalling.
The only thing I haven't changed yet are the plugs but would this cause the lack of a smooth continuous idle?
Sorry for the rookie question but I'm getting frustrated with it all

Considering how long its been standing mate id put new plugs in, ive got loads of good used plugs if you wanna try a set to rule them out, probably got a new set too. did you check those 3 little holes?

Re: Nc30 not idling or running
Hi mate , I checked the holes in the carbs and they're all clear. Found it a bit fiddly to get right in there but I'm pretty sure they're clear.
The thing that confuses me is if I hold the throttle open it's ok so I've been fiddling with the idle and in vain trying to get it to idle with the choke off - but it dies so with all the parts I've changed and cleaned I'm running out of options .
Thank you for the offer o the plugs mate I'll give it a go and see how the land lies

Re: Nc30 not idling or running
Still sounds like dirty pilot circuits.
Remove pilot jets and screws and apply compressed air to their openings from each direction in turn.
Apply compressed air to the body where the pilot jet will screw in.
Seal the 3 minute holes in the carb throat with fingers, partially releasing 1 at a time to see if each one is clear.
They will squeal/resonate as air is forced through the tiny air passage.

Re: Nc30 not idling or running
That's oneness the problems I have - no compressed air in my garage and I'm thinking the compressed air in a can just isn't strong enough to dislodge whatever could be in there.arsey30 wrote:Still sounds like dirty pilot circuits.

I've sprayed carb cleaner down there and got it spitting out but is there a better way?
Would rather not strip the carbs to nuts and bolts

Re: Nc30 not idling or running
No need to take carbs apart.
Remove them and leave as a block of 4 and just remove jets and pilot screws.
Take them to a friends or local garage to use a compressor for 5 minutes.

Thank you for your help, this is driving me round the twist a little .arsey30 wrote:No need to take carbs apart.

I've got a compressor I can borrow but is there anything else it could be?
I went out this morning and it starts just fine but upon shutting off the choke it dies. If I hold open the throttle it will stay alive but once release the revs die off and it stalls.
I can't help but question what I've already cleaned out and I probably didn't do a good enough job but I'm just trying to cover all angles when I get some garage time next.

Re: Nc30 not idling or running
Worth replacing plugs first as easier to get at than carbs, and a set offered, but I find starting is bad with faulty plugs rather than running issues.
Could be carb balance is out, but should still tick over, [will normally tick over on 3 cylinders] but unevenly and not reliable.-
Assuming the carbs are balanced and the throttle stop is screwed in sufficient for fast idle, then sounds like idle circuit which is by-passed by choke operation.
Can you speed up the tick over so that it does run, even if too fast.
If so, remove each plug cap in turn to see if 1 or 2 cylinders are not working.
Another check is to warm the engine until it ticks over then stop it and allow exhaust headers near the heads to cool.
Then start and run at tick over and straight away check each exhaust temps, probably 1 or 2 will be cold or colder than the others which will be hot. This would point to pilots or balance incorrect, but if it cuts back in with choke, then pilots suspect.

Once I find out what it is ill post up and be one very happy bunny

Re: Nc30 not idling or running
sounds your like pilot circuit / jets are blocked, your pilot screws / idle speed isnt set right and / or your float heights are off.
maybe a combination ofall of them
