hi . just wanting to know what i can use to replace my existing reg rec which just failed on me. should i buy a cheapy off ebay and risk failure?. go genuine from honda or go with a used or new reg rec from a different model?? also. if the later was the option, is it just as easy as plug and play to fit a reg rec from a diff model??

I used the tour MAX replacement Reg/rec for the race bike for around 4 years and never had an issue - also just plugs straight in, no mods required.

No, if you buy a cheap replacement part and risk failure you could do damage to other parts of your charging system. Either buy a good quality replacement from Rick Oliver or you can buy the older r6 reg/rec which also works well as a replacement.

I use one from an 07+ CBR600RR. Its a mosfet type which is much better than the stock diode one. I just spiced it in. The standard one's plugs don't work with the NC connector so if you want to use a plug, you'll have to buy one and use that.

just another question,

i just got my R6 reg/rec today in the mail. just in terms of wiring it up, should i solder on wires onto the female plugs, or will crimping be enough? I am worried that the plastic female crimp connectors may get too hot and melt?

should i just use female plugs without the coloured plastic part and solder it onto the wires straight??

Sorry for the newbie question.

always sodler.. they carry high amps.. when the wire oxidises and corrodes like it will over time with it being an exposed conection the resistance will increase so it will get hot and melt.

guys, can we maybe make a sticky post on changing reg/rec and use the more popular swap outs like the R6 or CBR?
