Hi all, this relates to an issue i've been having for a while.
When i push the starter, occasionally there would be a distinct snapping sound. Initially it only happened when i tried to start the bike when i was warmed up. Now it happens when cold as well. At times multiple snaps can be heard on a single try. No noise when the engine is running though.
Heres a video taken a while back. The 'snap' isn't as clear and loud as it is in person. Occurs 9 seconds in.

Re: Starter Issue
That's sounds like the starter mechanism clacking back on it self.
Notice it doesn't happen the 1st time and then only on the 2nd time, and the bike doesn't start on either cranks. Could just be play in the gears. If the bike doesn't start it will clack back, mine does it every new and again if the bike doesn't catch.
Try taking the side cover off and see if there is any play in the starter gears.
Failing that get a new starter motor, if its never been changed the bearings could be on the way out.
Remember the age of these bikes now, they are getting old.
