12mm inline fuel filter...any ideas?

Ism convinced 25 years worth of crud is getting into carbs from tank (yes I know there is a mesh style filter in tank)and want to run an inline filter from tank to carbs. Problem is I am struggling to find a reasonably priced fuel filter that will fit the bill. Inlet/outlet to fuel filter needs to be 12mm and filter itself needs to fit nicely under tank. Any ideas anybody?

12mm sounds bloody massive to me, 8mm is more usual.

Only one idea - don't.

You said yourself you know there's a filter inside the tank. Why would you want to fuck around with an inline one too? I'd make do being sure the in-tank filter is seated properly and not letting anything past, and leave it at that.

However, if you must, don't buy cheap cos you'll only be buying trouble. A cleanable alloy body is the best bet, but not cheap.

I have tried to clean out tank as best I can but inevitably there is still some crud I can't get out and filter is only way to be certain.

12mm is massive and why I am struggling to find anything but unfortunately that is the diameter of the carb feed pipe

Is that the outside or the inside diameter you're measuring?

You can run into problems fitting a filter - the carbs are only gravity fed and the filter will add more flow restriction to a barely adequate standard fuel system.

Each carb has a gauze filter under the float needle seat also. Sealing the tank would be your best option, search for POR15 tank sealer.

Yep, have tried an never got inline paper filters to work unless you've got a pump like an fzr. Deffo try an seal the tank as cammo says, its well worth doing.

I was able to de-rust a tank using Evapo-Rust. (Metal Rescue is the same idea.) Tank was VERY cruddy inside, it's now spotless. It's amazing what you can accomplish by being lazy and letting modern chemicals do the work for you. :D
