point in the right direction...

Hi All,

My NC30 starts fine and runs and revs ok at a standstill and goes up and down through the gears on an abba stand. But when ridden, it cuts the power at about 5k and from there slowly cuts out. This only seems to be when it's ridden.

When it first happened, it started cutting power at about 10-12k and got progressively worse over 10 mins or so.

It might be related, but the break-light only comes on in the first 10mm or so of front lever movement, and then it goes out if the lever's brought in any further. maybe CDI related?

I've checked the fuel tap, vacuum hose, carb slides are seated correctly with no leaks etc.

Can anyone suggest where to look next?

Cheers for any help, Rob.

also check the battery to see if its holding charge, whilst your at it, check the regulator (common fault) and the resistance (and output) for the three coils in the alternator. The procedures are in the manual

Battery seems fine, but there's no spark. CDI or pick ups do you reckon?

Speedo plugged in? does it rev cleanly in neutral? Only under load? vacuum working OK? genny giving the right output?

It sounds like it could have died from over voltage / common reg/rec failure?

Igntion boxes dont usually just die, nor do pickups but that doesnt mean they never, just quite rare when compaed to say overvolting killing the bike.

Usual issues for this problem are.

1.overcharging / underchanging, weird running.
2.fuel vaccum hose split / leaking / collapising causing starvation of fuel / weird running
3. speedo no connected on JDM bike causing misfire about 5500rpm
