Rvf 400 strange fault
Hi all, new here so here we go, i rescued a rvf years ago from certain death(lying in a mates garden) for 5years , after a months of work she was brought back to life and all was well, so its been stud up garaged for 1.5 years, now it is running realy lean, so here is some of what i have tried to rectify the prob, cleaned tank, fuel tap, all lines, new plugs, new carb rubbers, ultra sonic cleaned the carbs, new fuel, new ignitec cdi, new ignition pickup, new regulator, new battery (getting 13.5 volts at batt anyhow)also tried 115 main jets no different, bike is standard minus race can, but always ran well before, the only other thing i done to the bike was remove the foam from the snorkel could this do it?? The symtoms are no power, fluffy midrange and holding back and surging on hard acceleration, could the snorkel cause this, i have worked on these little v4 jems for years and have fixed every fault that has occurred but this has me baffled

Do you mean the air filter? What sort of air filter are you using?Mcconnellnc30nc35 wrote:the only other thing i done to the bike was remove the foam from the snorkel could this do it??
These bikes are very sensitive to any induction changes, any messing about here can certainly lead to lean running problems.

That foam's not standard, makes you wonder what else has been messed around with.
Are you sure that the carbs are seated properly in the rubbers? Use a torch and check each carefully.
Is the fuel tap vacuum line attached properly and working correctly?

Re: Rvf 400 strange fault
I have had 3 rvf 400s and this has been attached too every one of the snorkels, yea carbs are seated in rubbers perfectly ( new rubbers ) i had the carbs off 7 times, last time i got them ultra sonic cleaned, the bike always ran 100% its just this year it seams funny, the only thing i can think of is this foam, yea i had the tap apart and its fine working well, i even trried the bike with a different petrol tank off a bike in everyday use and stll just the same,

No probs mate, do ya think it could be the cause? I was told it was just a induction sound dampener, thats why i removed it,

Re: Rvf 400 strange fault
So i seem to have cracked it, took the air box off and mimicked the honda foam and she is driving nearly faultless,
