Does your NC30 tank hiss when you pop the cap?!

Post by ireson75 » Mon Jul 08, 2013 11:48 pm

Hi All,

I am having some problems with my NC30. I took it for its first ride out on the weekend and got some good miles done so was very happy.

However, I seemed to be an issue that felt like fuel starvation- I managed at least 30 miles and then it started to just die slowly and sounded like it was being starved of fuel.

Leave it on its side stand for a bit and it and had another go and it then seemed fine again... Very odd! This then proceeded to happen a few more times before I got home. I did think it was lack of petrol however there was definitely sufficient fuel left in the tank.

I was thinking of all the problems that it could be and I THINK I might have of found it- Does your NC30 tank hiss when you open the lid?

Mine does quite badly and I think this may be the problem. I didn't check the breather tonight, and will do tomorrow however the vacum hose is definitely attached before you say that is the culprit!

Cheers for your help, Tom :P

Breather pipe trapped/kinked is a likely culprit.

I believe this is called a vapour lock. My friend bought an r6 last month and on his first ride out he came across the exact same problem you are having. The dealer he bought the bike from changed the fuel filter the day before he went to collect it and when he refitted the tank had managed to kink the breather hose. As the fuel got warm in the tank and started to give off a lot of vapours they couldn't escape due to the kinked hose thus creating a vaccum in the tank resulting in the starvation of fuel.

Thanks for your help, took it for a spin tonight and it seems to have sorted it.

Cheers, Tom
