Hi all,
I have a problem with my nc30 clutch being really slack, all adjustments made at the grip and at the bottom.
I have rebuilt the clutch time and time again, exactly as haynes, replaced friction plates, measured everything, plates, springs, everything, all correct!
My woe is this. With everything reassembled there is a lot of play on the lifter plate (6mm) of slack between lifter and plate. Once again, all slack taken in on new cable and still no where near enough to disengage the clutch. It is almost like the push rod is too short or something!
Anyone have any experience with something similar?
Thanks
Ed

Re: Clutch replacement woes
6mm is about the thickness of 1 friction and 1 steel plate - how many of each have you got?
Is it possible you are short in the plate count? I can't remember how many it should be, but assuming the clutch is built to spec, I can't think of any other reason you'd have about 6mm of slack at the pressure plate.

Re: Clutch replacement woes
9 steel, 10 friction in an NC30 clutch, 8 steel, 9 friction in NC35 (typo corrected, thanks Neo!). I believe there is a difference in thickness between the two models to compensate. A complete clutch can be transplanted from the 30 to the 35 and vice versa, although personally I'd not want to swap just the plate packs as I have a suspicion that the two clutch centre castings will be a slightly different thickness as well....

some good clutch plate info here, as you will see some are slightly different, make sure you have the right number and right thickness of each.
The microfiche are on that website too if you dont have to look at the assembly order.
The geunines service manual is also on this site if you dont have it, its useful
