Nc30 bogs down open roads when wind hits the bike :S

Post by Oli400nc30 » Wed Jun 12, 2013 5:02 pm

Hi I am a new owner of an nc30 . It runs fine in the first few gears revs and pulls really well up to 13k but the problems seems to start when in 4th or 5th, the only way I can describe it is when I'm on an open road and wind hits the bike it bogs down and won't rev anymore, and will stick at like 61mph and sometimes might clear a little and go a bit quicker, the bike has a tyga maggot exhaust can on and has been recently had the carbs cleaned etc by local bike shop thanks Oli.

Of course not.... ;)

@ Oli - you probably have a bike that has had someone messing with the airbox "trying to get more air in".

If it was you, pretend it wasn't and just put it back to standard and it will work lovely. ;)

I think he already said in his prior post in another thread that the intake/airbox was stock, he also neglected to mention in this one it's restricted to 47bhp. It does sound like an intake issue though, missing the air scoop perhaps.

how is it restricted, who did it? Is it dyno'd etc?

I suspect it is a case of it running terribly lean at high speed..and I'll still guess that it is missing the flap and or the snorkel..

It has a maggot too? oh dear :)

Hi all yes had a look at the air filter and its a standard air filter but after speaking to rick oliver I had a look at the bottom air filter case and it has been cut off, the flap that sits underneath the snorkel, CMSMJ1 yes haha think the previous owner has obviously messed with it trying to get more air in, it wasn't me  thanks all will get a new one fitted and hopefully will be end of it

Chances are a lot more has been messed with, take the opportunity to get the carbs apart and check.

K&N oil filter would be fine - but you can fit original Honda, Hi flo, champion etc - the crack with oil filters is that a decent part need not cost you - and I doubt a K&N is any better than any other.

Them pesky air flap thieves eh? Always ruining the bikes!! Once an NC30 is setup standard and working then there are not many smoother and tractable motors out there.

Ok thanks just ordered a filter with 4l of castrol oil off ebay 34.99 going to change oil as I don't think the previous owner will have for a while. And I know ahaha damn flap thieves, that's hopefully the end of bogging down once I get a flap 8-) . Also should there be another rubber part on top of the radiator or is this the flap? Sorry for the newbie questions any advice is much appreciated. Oli.
