VFR Fork Tubes

Post by Sharkbait » Wed Jun 05, 2013 4:01 am

Hi, i'm currently rebuilding my front suspension and have discovered after several years of being in storage the forks are quite pitted and have a number of scores on there from the previous owner.

I've looked around and re-chroming seems to be seriously expensive and i'm considering ordering a new set from either Wemoto or LM Spares (both in the UK and i am in Australia). The LM spares offer a pair inc bushes / seals for 194 quid which seems incredible value versus rechroming. Wemoto offer Italian made ones (not sure of origin of the LM spares variants)

Any experience on the above or can anyone recommend somewhere in Australia for rechroming that wont cost the Earth (tubes would have to come from Perth so additional handling charges).

Thanks

I have just recently ordered the very same from Wemoto ... I ordered all the parts you have listed as seperate items
This all came to 234 of the british pounds! This included shipping (they also knock off the gst / vat)
The tubes are great ...I have the late type forks so make sure you get the right ones !

By the way I have a pair of chinese early fork tubes knocking around ... they are brand new & OK ... but no good to me

Thanks mate, that price sounds OK. I have been quoted >$300 pending condition just to have them re-chromed + whatever postage to and from WA would be.
I've just looked on Wemoto and noticed there are two options - 1 being "adjustable". I assume that means for the later model forks which have adjustment?
Are all the seals that you ordered OEM or are they pattern parts? I'm considering doing the rebuilding myself to save some money on labour costs and buying a Racetech spring pair to help stiffen it all up at the front end.

I have late model forks as well so your Chinese shiny things wont be any use to me either, sorry!

OEM seals are the best - pattern ones are usually pretty shit.

If you are also after springs then, Mr Sharkbait, let me introduce you to your friend for spares. - Rick Oliver.

He can supply the seals, a fork respring kit and so on - a very well respected member and one we all have used, or will, when we need anything for the bikes.

He has a price list in the traders section.

Hi CMSMJ1. Thanks for the info, I've been in touch with Rick and ordered a fair old whack of stuff from him for the bike. Indeed top service and advice. I remember when I first joined here it was Rick, Greame France and someone else who had the majority of bits available for them. I got into buying a Tyga kit via the site on a group buy in around 2005 so have just rejoined now the bike is under scrutiny again.
I've put feelers out on chroming and new fork tubes so will see what comes back:)

Cheers
