I've replaced the forks on my NC30 (the originals where bent) with a used set off ebay, took it to my local garage along with genuine honda fork seals to have the forks serviced, now the forks are stupidly stiff and it is horrible to ride anywhere
plus the forks dont seem to want to come back after being pushed down...

anyone able to tell me what to adjust and how to adjust it in order to soften up the forks? I believe I have the later type forks. thanks

What did the shop do to them? ask them? What oil, how much and why they managed to set the rebound on full.

I am not too sure what they done tbh I just gave them the new seals and asked to have the forks serviced and picked up the bike the next day. Tbf to them the adjuster bit at the top (the bit with ring markings on it sorry don't know what its called) is at the same level which I think they were at to begin with, 2visible rings and the third one is flush with the yoke,

I don't know what oil or how much they used, but if someone could tell me how much or what oil they should have used then I can go back ask what they done and then compare it to what should have been done?

The reason I didn't try tackling the fork seals/service myself was to avoid any problems... so i gave it to a garage only to end up with problems =(

The forks need 10w oil and (off the top of my head) approx 405cc in each leg.

The damping adjuster (the brass screw) needs careful fettling to be sure it is in the right range once back together, easy enough but you have to actually do it right.

my bet is they put too much of too viscous oil in it. and the rebound adjuster is screwed right in. Unscrew it and see if it makes much difference. It should do..

Cannot harm to ask them what oil weight they used - just call and ask, tell them the forks are feeling very slow and see what they say..

is the rebound adjuster the one with the ring markings? Do I need to do anything to the brass screw at the top?

the one with rings is the preload adjuster - this will compress the spring and you use that to get the right sag (am ount it compresses with you sat on it - approx 25-30mm needed)

The brass one is the damping adjuster - it has a tapered needle on the end of it in the forks - you screw it in, the needle makes the hole smaller, you get more damping. Screw it out, more oil can flow adn so less damping.

The NC is a combined adjuster - so that screw adjusts compression and rebound.

if the fork is slow to return/rebound, then unscrew it a bit. it should click with each adjustment -

As you stated the fork is slow to return so I should unscrew the damping adjuster anti-clockwise movement. thanks again CMSMJ1! I will report back of my findings/troubles/woes/success haha
