Hi Guys, anyone made up their own front spindle? Turns out mine is bent so i have done some measurements and ready to turn one out on the lathe. Has anyone made an aluminium version (enough strength / resistance to wear?) or what other materials / designs have people gone with.
I could buy an original but thats no fun!

Personally I wouldn't recommend Ali as it's a bit soft and the Dural alloys (or whatever they are called now) while probably strong enough aren't really up to the rigours of a spindle type environment (threads and banging them in and out). Oh and it's a bitch to machine fully hard.
If you must make your own 316 stainless is easy enough to work with but its a bit soft.
Simply, for the amount of effort, steel is your best option.
can you not find one on ebay?

Thanks roop. Few on eBay. Killer is postage to Australia. Will speak to my machinist this week, some 4140 steel should work, can be heat treated then if needed. Will prob buy the eBay special anyway as i might need it for spares (race bike in the making).
