Post by Davez29 » Mon May 27, 2013 11:32 am

just a quickie..

are the torx bolts just naturally tight or is there some sort of security feature built in and they have to snapped? as i cant budge them.

I removed some on Friday evening and yes they were very sodding tight, I had to wrap the top yoke in a tea towel and clamp it into a vice to get them out, mine didn't snap tho, I think they have a loctite substance on them as a security device, but i think the security of them was that they were a torq bolt as I don't think they were so commonly available back in the early 90's I might be wrong tho!

I would say it would be harder to do upside down whilst they are on the bike, I had to really thump on the rachet to get them to move when I had it in the vice, top yoke is easy and quick to remove if you got a big enough socket!

Don't know if they are reusable I'd re use them but whether your meant to or not I'm dunno, they may be a stretch bolt but I'd doubt it??

Yes get a longer ratchet but take as much off the bike as you can to loosen them as you dont want to round the heads on them. Cant remember if they had loctite on them though.
I reused the old bolts again if that helps and never had a problem

There loctited mine were a bitch to get out, just unlip the red ignition loom plug i think, and throw them in the vice.

I put new bolts in after and loctited again.

Ok and thanks for the replies. looks like im going to wait until off work and go see a mate with a windy gun as that sounds the easier option. my ignition is playing up as the small cover snapped off one icey morning and seems to be dropped into the barrel making the key impossible to turn without a lot of joggling about sometimes. i got a new used oem lock set to put on.
