Rest the dipstick on the top. Do not screw it in to check the oil level

bike has to be cold and upright and cap unscrewed. Do not overfill!

The handbook that I have says to run the engine for a few minutes, turn it off and to wait a few minutes before checkin the level.

I'm not kidding, it doesn't specify a time, just "a few minutes".

Certainly if you check mine cold when it's been standing over night no oil shows on the dipstick at all.

After following the instructions (I wait about three minutes in both cases) it indicates correctly.

So far I've never had to put additional oil in though I've only done just over 1500 km on it so far.
