Post by Jac-al » Fri May 17, 2013 4:51 am

Hi,

Im looking for more power but dont wanna get a bigger bike as i love my NC30 and the other options are crazy

So im asking what other mods are worth doing?

Ive heard putting NC35 cams and carbs are a good way to go, is this correct and whats the power gains?

Thanks

how deep are your pockets?

The end result...and trust me, I know - is that whatever you do to the NC30 it won't be the powerful bike you want.

Use it for it's strengths and accept it for the 20+yr old bike it is.

I rode mine for the first time in ages the other weekend - have been commuting to work on a Thunderace (YZF1000) whicih has lots of power and only 5 gears. Any overtake on that, you just sniff the throttle and it pulls and pulls and is a fast old bus. Taking my NC out and I was amazed at how weak and puny it was. Changing two gears and revving the arse of it to get anywhere...

Then I remembered that this is how it is supposed to be. I then proceeded to thrash the balls of it everywhere and it was the most exciting ride I have had for ages. Not the fastest, not then scariest but just good, relatively safe fun.

I will have a fair amount of cash i can spend soon and just want an extra maybe 15hp. How much difference would NC35 cams, and carbs give?

15bhp is not happening. That is a 25% increase in power...

RVF carbs give better response but not better power. Cams give better response and probably 1bhp at most...if at all

Removing the quietening gears will get better response and perhaps a teeny bit of power..

GSXR genny conversion will also give better response and perhaps another teeny bit of power.

For power - you need a full exhaust system, some ram air system and a lot of dyno time. System can get you 3-5 perhaps, ram air another 3 or so at full speed.

unless you have £1500+ kind of money...then you send the motor away to G-Force and ask if they would build you a nice motor..

It is all moot anyways, as you are in jo'burg then you are fucked due to the altitude and will have 5 or 6bhp down due to the lower air pressure..so go to the coast mate :)

wow what are you smoking.

If you have money buy a bigger bike.. a CBR600F will be easier and cheaper to maintain and have loads more power.

nc35 cams and carbs wont give any more bhp.

the NC35 makes 53hp, thats 6hp less than the NC30 from stock.

The difference in fuelling and camshaft position does make for a smoother ride.

Most tuners agree that for full out power that NC30 carbs are the way to go.

to get 75hp you will need most of a honda F3 race kit, which even if you could find will cost you thousands of euro

these bikes were designed to produce this horsepower range and they are already quite tuned.

it isnt like many cars that often have lots of extra hp in the engine but due to emissions and tuning they are down tuned.

most tuners are using bigger piston kits which are not cheap and require professional knowledge and time, money to install, tune and setup.

even then the most highest powered 400 still wont make as much power as a cbr600.

for a 400 racing class then its understandable but if you want more power buy a bigger bike.. its really the only way. *

* unless you have good mechanical knowlege or know people that do and have time and money to throw at the bike AND are willing to spend more than most other bikes will cost to buy for less power.

CMSMJ1 what exactly is required for a ram air, is it the same as HRC carb kit?

Is this for a road bike?

If so, as I said before - play to the normal strengths and leave it as big H intended. Ram air on a road bike is not going to be much beneift.

Get a full system, get it setup on a dyno and move from your 6000ft altitude to sea level and you'll get 10bhp...
