NC30 another oil leak

This time it appears to be coming from the joint in the water pump (arrowed), but not the drain hole in the pump itself?



I take it this is not serviceable, and I will need to buy a new pump?

When removing the water pump, does the engine oil have to be drained, or is it sufficient to just drain the coolant?

Drop the oil, or the about half oil will drop itself when you remove the pump. I know from experience.. lol

I'd be a bit concerned if oil is coming from where you have arrowed, as that's the cover for the impeller, as best I can tell, which would suggest oil is getting past the oil seal and therefore into the coolant. The only seals you can get are the seal for the impeller cover, and the one between the pump and the engine case. The pump is non-servicable, so if anything goes wrong ,it goes in a skip. Are you sure that oil isn't leaking onto the pump casing and just looking like it's coming out when you have indicated?

Pumps are occasionally to be had on eBay from about £25-50. Genuine ones are silly money. 19200-ML0-721 £102, 1 in stock at DSS. Well, I said silly money because the NC35 one is £156!! I thought they were the same?

Well, there's no sign of any oil in my water (I wish the same could be said for my car...), so on second inspection, I think the leak may be between the pump and the engine casing.

I wiped everything down again, started the engine, and there was a nice amount of clean oil sitting there between the engine and the pump when I dabbed it with clean tissue after the engine was up to temperature. Some oil did manage to collect again at the joint in the photo, and I can't see for the life of me how it's getting there unless it's coming through the joint...

But I think it's certainly worth whipping the pump off and replacing the O ring before trying anything else.

You'd be surprised at where stuff can get. When I changed the pump on my 35, the seal between the pump and the engine was absolutely solid. I would put a small sum of money on yours having gone solid and cracked, but I guess you'll find out when you take it off.
