I took the bike out of storage this weekend and will again attempt to get a few things done. It is in rolling chassis status right now. Only one item left to fully complete this, but it is not a critical item.
So I have made the decision to rebuild and finish the motor before I get the frame trued. Since the motor has to be in the frame anyway and I do not feel like making the trip to Atlanta anytime soon, I'll work on the motor and get it done and then get the frame dialed in. Then when I return, it is just a matter of assembling the rest of the bike and fine tuning the cosmetic stuff.
This brings up the question of pistons. This is the only real part I need to purchase before tearing into the motor since I already have most everything else. I have heard that some people put NC29 pistons in their CB-1's as well as some folks putting NC35 pistons in their NC29's. So I need to ask the question. Will NC35 pistons work in the CB-1? The idea is that NC29 pistons in the CB-1 will increase the compression a bit and that NC35 pistons increase it a bit more. I know for a fact I can go with the NC29 pistons. But want to know if I can go with the NC35 pistons?
Looking at this parts list, http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-rvf400rr-nc3 ... ml#results, what do I need?
I know I need the pistons, pin, clips and rings. But should I also get the connecting rod and parts or stay with the CB-1 connecting rod? I do not know.
If the NC35 parts will not work, then asking about the NC29 parts. Do I need to go with NC29 connecting rods or stay with the CB-1 rods?
another question if the NC35 parts will work. If I go with the NC35 connecting rods, there are also listed various bearings. For instance, part #9 has a listing for an A, C & B bearing. Same for part #10. What are the differences. I imagine it is clearances.
I would appreciate any detailed insight to any of these modifications. I am putting the money together now for the motor rebuild and the pistons are the first purchase.
