idle all over the place

Post by beaunc30 » Fri Apr 19, 2013 8:10 pm

hi could anybody help me, I have recently put another engine in my bike was an absolute b***h to start, got it started and seemed to run fine ,the next day it wouldn't start again, now put in a new set of plugs and started first time, now it is revving high for a few seconds then the revs drop and it cuts out and not easy to start again, doesn't sound as though it is running right when it is running either, really have had enough now been rebuilding the bike since October last year spent a heap of cash and everytime I think im nearly done something else goes wrong, just about ready to get rid and get something newer and less hassle.

When was the last time it had a proper service?

Valve clearances, oil and filter change etc. Plus what carb settings are you running? Intake and exhaust standard?

Have you set the idle properly? How old are the carb rubbers?

So many things could be the cause.

What carb settings is it running? Is the intake and exhaust standard? Have the valve clearances been done recently?

If all is good here I'd be looking at the ignition system.

check carb rubbers, perished cracked, are the carb on correctly, sounds like its drawing air, if its all over the place,
