Rear wheel setup / chain clearance - NC30

Post by tigerclaw » Fri Mar 29, 2013 4:10 pm

I was busy removing the chain on my bike when I noticed that the wheel runs very close to the chain (prob about 5 mil's), if I push the chain with my hand I can get it to touch the edge of the wheel (150/60 battlax)... I also noted that the wheel sits left when looking through the subframe. Is it possible to setup the wheel more to the left or right (does it shimmed or something?) havent got to the point where I am going to strip the rear hub yet but I am interested in the answer in the meantime. PS - my chain card is off which makes my "test" possible, suppose it is possible that this is normal and the chain guard prevents it from happening? Thanks

You can still check the clearance with guard on by measuring the bottom chain run clearance.
The hub carrier can move out to the left when the clamp bolt is loosened to adjust the chain, so push/lever it over to the right.
It only moves a small amount, 5mm clearance is ample, my NC30 is 4mm, other bikes with wider tyres are 2 to 3mm
