nc24 New battery, No power after engine swap

Post by road_runner » Wed Jan 30, 2013 8:38 am

I just recently had my new motor dropped in, i bought a new battery today, put it in turned the key but no power what so ever. No lights, nothing. I replaced the fuse in the starter solenoid, still nothing.

What do i try/test next?

My electrical knowledge is almost non-existent. And yeah the battery has charge.

Well since you mention engine swap you will have had to disconnect most things right.

Id start by unplugging all the connectors and checking none of the contacts are shitty / bent and they are all connected securly.

fixed that issue. had 12.7v at one end of the main power wire (battery to solenoid) and 5.something 100mm away. pulled it off and it fell apart so i hacksawed the terminal to get it apart and re-clamped it in the vice.

got power, ignition works, on to the next issue...

turning over but not firing up. ive been just pouring gas straight down the fuel line and still no cigar. guess ill check my spark plugs tomorrow and work backwards from there.

You may also want to check that fuel is making it's way through the carbs into the engine :peace:
Conventional wisdom says to know your limits. To know your limits you need to find them first. Finding your limits generally involves getting in over your head and hoping you live long enough to benefit from the experience. That's the fun part.

Well Ive got spark.
When i pour gas down the line & turn it over it disappears so I'm guessing its going through fine & just going out the exhaust?
Possibly a timing issue?

how long have you cranked it for? are the plus wet?

It takes a while to fill up the float bowls.

Cranked it for ages, yeah could be? I took the airbox off and sprayed crc jump start into the carb & cranked it over, got a couple of flames so the plugs are doing their job. Must be fuel flow related im guessing if thats the case. Will try to find something on sorting the carbs out. Cheers for the help mate.

Take the plugs out and clean them up if there dirty.

Full choke and no throttle at all

make sure vaccum tap and everything is conencted up, try statrting it with 5 seconds of cranking, 30 seconds of rest 3 or 4 times.

If it hastn caught by then something is wrong.

Still a no go. Confident everything is in and working properly bar the motor. May have been sold a dodgy motor so I'll take it back to the wrecker & get him to check it out this weekend & swap it if need be.
Lucky it's under warranty & I think I've learnt enough this time round to do the complete engine swap myself.

Compression tested it anyway had good readings. Possible that the carb may have gummed up while sitting so sending that in for an overhaul. Hope it's good news after that!
