VFR400 NC24 technical advice

Hi all,

My VFR400 NC24 (1987) is only running on front two cylinders (2 and 4). After some initial diagnostics I found that the two rear cyliders were not getting spark. I therefore replaced the coil pack and now get spark on cylinders 1 and 3. I however can not get cylinder 1 and 3 to fire. I am thinking the problem must be fuel delivery so went to try to remove the carbs. After two hours in the garage swearing I have given up for today .

I have notice while the bike is running on two cylinders as soon as the choke is moved from fully open to slightly closed the bike dies. Does anybody have some advice on removing the carbs or where my problem may lie ?

Definitely carbs. Easiest way to remove them is to take off the airbox. Then loosen all eight clamps holding the rubber port adapters between carbs and engine. Then use a hefty screwdriver (a crowbar is a bit OTT) to gently lever up the rear. Once the rear bank is free the front should just pop out.

Thanks I will give that a try . Once I have them off I will give them a thorough clean through and see if that does the trick.

A piece of wood works well too.i use a foot long pece of 2x4! softer than metal and you can get it under the carbs and lever it up.
