Polishing Metal Parts...

Post by spenceley1 » Thu Nov 15, 2012 10:34 am

So was thinking about polishing up my yokes and clip on's and even possibly my swing arm? I've had a look at a few things online but was wondering if anyone had any advice to help with it? Would like to do it just with drill bits if that's possible as a wheel seems too expensive, cheers! :)

Will be imposible with the drill you just cant apply the pressure needed, you can only do it with a decent bench grinder.

You'll also sand the pits out by hand as it will give the polished finish a crap look this certainly isn't a 5 min job, nore is maintaining it when its done.

I guess the sensible option after polishing would be to apply some very hard laquer, like there is on the upper frame?

Bit off topic - but I have a polished swingarm, bought it to use on the bike then changed my mind.
Needs a bit of a buff to refresh it but itd save you a lot of work!
PM me an offer if you're interested.

Hmm... Maybe this should be something to look into once I've sorted all the mechanical problems first?... What makes it trouble to look after once its done? Especially if its not ridden in bad weather?

Vic, you got any pics of the swingarm? Would be nice to see what it looks like polished first :)

It's metal, therefore it will corrode or at least dull when exposed to the air for long enough, and if you polish all the bike, there's a lot of it to keep shiny! Some people might regard having to polish tons of shiny surfaces trouble. Other people may consider it a labour of love. Don't let other people put you off doing something if that's your wont....

As above, if that's what you want go for it but once done it's the up keep that will be the hardest work.
