Snap!
I'm just in the process of removing the Tyga system, despite plenty of penetrating fluid, tapping & gently working the nuts backwards & forwards the inevitable has happened - one of the front exhaust studs has snapped.
There is about 8-10mm of threading is showing so all is not lost.
What are my options?
I'm thinking double nutting & trying to unscrew the (tight) stud or perhaps bodging & welding an extra length of threading on. Hoe about enlarging the hole in the clamp & having one of the nuts turned down to utilise the existing threading?
Options & advice greatly appreciated.
Now onto the back......
I really don't want to snap the remainder flush with the head

Re: Snap!
First id try double nutting, easier than welding a nut on. Its pot luck tho, ive had some come out and others ive tried everything and ended up drilling out and putting a heli coil in, good luck :)

Re: Snap!
soak it with penetrating spray like wd40 over the next few days before trying it again if your not in a rush.
Good luck.
I went to change mine a couple of months ago as the headers had a slight blow but they were just tight enough for me to think sod that and i just changed the nuts! I chickened out!
Good luck.

Re: Snap!
Stud removal tool first choice, Double nutting second choice, Geting a nut welded on 3rd choice....see where you get with that before anything else.
Whatever you do work with a little finesse and pattience and LOTS of WD40 and with just a litte bit of luck you should get it/them out ok.
Fingers crossed for you

Re: Re: Snap!
Cheers for the info, much appreciated, trouble is the rear stud snapped close to the head - looks like it'll need drilling, the front is tight, tried double nutting - I used as much force as I dare, don't want to sheer it close to the head too.NGneer wrote:Stud removal tool first choice, Double nutting second choice, Geting a nut welded on 3rd choice....see where you get with that before anything else.

It's right what you say about finesse, going in het up & ham fisted with these things is never a good idea.
Oh well, at least I gave it the best I could.

Re: Snap!
Has anyone else noticed that original studs have a small taper in the middle the unthreaded part, only reason I can think of for this is to allow for heat expansion where the flange sits on the studs. Pity they act like security/shear bolts and that's where they snap.

Re: Snap!
The trouble is your working upside down so the WD40 doesnt work its up the thread. The front one you can drill out and re-tap or heli coil pretty easy, the rear isnt so easy. You might be able to get at it if you remove the subframe, shock and possibly the swingarm, other options is to drop the engine or remove the head with engine in situ. PITA whichever way you look at it, great these V4's aint they :)

Re: Snap!
Can you cut a slot in it and impact driver it out? And penol is a mega good freeing oil if you can find some. I know this wont help but i replaced all the studs on mine with stainless, but i got lucky and they came out, maybe worth doing if youve got it in bits anyway.
Cheers
