nc29 dead battery...
Hi the battery in my nc29 keeps running flat. the battery was brand new a few months ago and put on a trickle charger when the bike was not being used. the bike has been used every day for the last week but this morning it was dead. bumped the bike this evening at work and checked the battery with a meter. the battery was reading 10 volts with the igntion on , 12 and a half with the engine running and 13 at 5k rpm. i think its the reg / rec that needs replacing. i was noticed the rec / reg was warm after the bike had been running. Am i looking at replacing the rec to fix the problem. ?? any help would be great. cheers.

Re: nc29 dead battery...
You shoud get...........
12.8V - 13v with the igniton off
14V - 16V @ 3000 rpm
Between any of the 3 yellow wires coming from the Generator you should get around 40 - 50V AC at 3000rpm, you will have to check all 3 wires against each other. ( correct me if Im wrong, taking this from my poor boozed memory )
The Honda Reg/Rec are quite frankly cack, they may have improved over time but the older ones are naff.
It should get a bit warm when running as it dumps the voltage thru heat into the rear subframe that its attached to.
I was suprised that there was no heat sink type material on the back of of mine when I changed it. Something to think about. I may remove mine over the weekend and slap some compound behind it. Cant do any harm.
I have also heard of people attaching a PC cooling fan to them as well.
The R6 reg/rec can be used as a direct replacement ( not sure what year ), but they arent cheap but if it saves on new batterys may be a worthwile change. Ebay is your friend here , if you can wait for one to pop up.

Re: nc29 dead battery...
sounds like a shagged generator to me not charging it up enough, rather than a reg rec failing and over charging.
Measure teh output of the generator - 3 yellow wires into the reg rec - use AC volts.
Should get a good 50V AC per pair of wires - that does change with revs.
My bet is that one of the phases is fucked...
