Winter Tidy Up.

Bike is off the road for a few weeks, as i've cracked a side casing, and damaged my fairings badly.

During this, i'm planning to do a bit of tidying up on the bike. (And contend with the misery of driving to work)

I've just fitted new radiators, and the carbs were cleaned and balanced recently. Here is a list of things i'm hoping to do. Anything else I should be doing when it is off the road, and stripped, please let me know.

Side casing is in the ultrasonic cleaner at the moment (No real need, its just my favourite toy at work these days), ready to be fitted when I get a new gasket.

Drain Oil, new filter.
Fit new side casing and gasket
Fit new rear subframe. (current one is a bit bent)
Dismantle clock assembly, straighten, prep and repaint.
Clean engine. (I have use of a heavy duty steam cleaner, would this be any use, or is some petrol on a rag and elbow grease a better job?)
Fit new clip ons, and grips (RHS bent, after some scum bag tried to steal the bike)
Clean Switch gear
Tidy any bodged wiring. (I'm sure there will be some)
Check and lube Throttle/clutch/choke cables
Attempt to Plastic weld lugs onto my Original Honda panels, check fitment.

Now this is all the stuff I can do without spending much money. Please add to this list!

Stuff I would like to get done,

Powder coat, or paint wheels
Get panels and tank resprayed.

Steam clean is really effective, my mechanic friend once did that to mine when it was being serviced and it ate through all the crap on the engine and swingarm very well. Just be careful to avoid getting too much water over the bearings, or better still see if you can wrap them up to avoid the risk of any water being forced into them. Of course, this won't be so much of an issue if you're planning giving the bearings TLC too, however I always figure it's best not to take the risk...

How about inspecting the brake calipers to make sure you don't have any corroded or sticky pistons, that the pads and hoses are in good nick and the pad pins and springs are in good order?

maybe the brake discs? could be warped, my friends uncle failed his MOT because his 3 year old Megelli 125r had warped front disc, still a fail even though it was roughly about 1-2mm of warp, and you cant see it with naked eye unless you took it out and inspected it, or by spinning the wheel and seeing if it touches the brake pads. oh and also brake pads. , test reg/rec, test battery, test ALL electronics. as for plastic welding. why not use plastex? it is a very good way of fixing/molding new plastic. you can find it on ebay, i think its specifically designed for lug repairs etc.

most if not all bearings? especially head bearings and races.
