What is this on cylinder head?

Post by mintmansam » Sun Sep 09, 2012 1:52 pm

Hi, i have noticed a brown residue from this hole on the left side rear cylinder head, its not coming out now, not sure if its been there before or not. theres only about less than 5ml come out, its more like residue, theres no evidence of it dripping down any more. its hard to see as the frame is in the way.

i've tried to find out what the hole is for, searched the forum, found one topic, i think its a spark plug drain hole, but i'm too sure. check haynes manual, theres no mention of it in there.

checked the coolant its fine. the bike starts fine, runs fine, was riding it the other day. no smoke from exhaust.,

Anyone have any info of what its for, and any possible problems, i haven't started it since i noticed it.

Thanks Sam,

It is a drain hole the the spark plug recess. Should be one for each spark plug. The brown stain suggests water perhaps has made it into the spark plug recess at some time.
