Hi all, I picked up my NC30 a couple of days ago but the only time I have ridden it is the journey home. The guy who I bought it off said it had the 33bhp restrictors fitted so I decided to whip em out before I start using the bike. It is now on my drive with fairings, tank and airbox removed but the carbs look a bit of a bitch to get off! Before I start is there an easy way to tell if the restrictors are definately in there? I dont want to have my bike in bits if I dont need to!
My last bike was an R6 so it obviously feels a bit down on power but Ive only used it for 15 mins.
and help/advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks guys.
how can I tell if restrictors are fitted?

No easy way. They go inside the ports where the carbs meet the cylinders, where the rubbers are secured with clips. This'll tell you more:

Re: how can I tell if restrictors are fitted?
with the airbox off, if I move the floats up and open the throttle I can see what looks like washers in the bottom?
Will these be the restrictors or am I just being a complete novice?
The screws that hold the carb rubbers on dont look to be in the best condition and I dont want to wreck them.
I also want to do the jets/needles etc as per Rick O's advice when I put a new exhaust on so I might just leave it till then and have some new screws handy for when the carbs go back on.
Should I leave it or am I just being a big jessy and should stop over thinking it?

the discs you can see are the restrictors.
you'll have to learn the carbs ballache sometime soon...so get some new rubbers, clamps and some red rubber grease and get cracking!

Yeah, thought so.
I will get the parts on order and do it when i sort the exhaust, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.
Thanks for the help & advice!

Re: how can I tell if restrictors are fitted?
If you're going to fiddle with the jets and needles, then wait until you have the bits, then do the lot at once. You'll have to have the carbs off to get the restrictors out, and you'll have to have them off to rejet. A complete pain, apparently, which is why I got new rubbers for mine as the ones I have are probably original and concrete like, and unlike my now retired spannerman, I'm not a very experienced service mechanic with my own workshop. Hopefully one day I'll get there even if it's only my bike I work one....
Anyway, here's a link to an eBay auction for the restrictors just in case you're unsure of what they ought to look like, but as has been posted above, you're looking at them.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-VFR-400 ... 4abbb28bb9
The bands that hold the carb rubbers on (each has one at the top and bottom) can be bought with the screw, or you can get the screw on it's own. Or, if you prefer, it's a 5x25mm cross drive pan headed jobby. You can still get the rubbers, too. The bands themselves will probably be fine, but Honda screws are generally prone to the heads stripping, apparently part of that is due to the fact that the Japanese equivalent of pozidrive/Philips is subtly different, and our screwdrivers damage them. Anyway, at this point I usually bore people with parts numbers and prices, so here goes...
Carb rubber (4): 16211-ML0-720, £6.50
Carb band and screw (8): 16219-KE7-010, £4.95
Band screw on own (8): 93516-05025-0G, £0.54
Prices are ex VAT and shipping, taken from David Silver. Other parts suppliers are available, and prices may vary, of course.

Re: how can I tell if restrictors are fitted?
You can get all the bits from any Honda dealer, David Silver Spares (where I get the prices from), Rick Oliver (a forum member here), or most places that do bike parts. Have a look on eBay too, often people sell new stuff in packets when they're having a clear out. Just check the prices first, I've seen lots of new bits recently being sold on eBay for more than they'd cost if you went to a Honda parts dealer!
