Nc35 headlight issues

Put the bike back together recently there and the headlights don't want to play ball.
Something simple I'm sure. Connector blocks behind clocks hooked up, left switchhear cleaned and working and bulbs fine. Fuse is grand. Anywhere else on the bike I could be missing that is giving me this headache?

What exactly is the problem? They don't work at all or they flicker, etc?

If they don't work at all, try swapping the relay out if everything else is fine.

Easy check to see if there's voltage to the bulb holder:

Take the holder off the bulb.
Stick red multimeter probe into the spade for low beam. It's the bottom terminal of the connector if you have the holder oriented like so: |_|
Ignition ON and headlight switch ON.
Black multimeter probe, touch to the L/H terminal (earth).

Repeat above with red probe into R/H terminal to check main beam.

If you don't get around 12vDC and wiring/switch/fuse is fine then it's most likely the relay.

Also, fuse may look fine but may not be. Check with multimeter on Ohms, red probe to one side, black to other. You should get a low reading. If you get "1." then the fuse is open circuit and scrap.

If you have voltage, bulbs are fubar.

wank earth in the loom perhaps ? try running another outside the loom to eliminate.
BTW loom earths on the left by front coil above the lower rad.

If you've lost low beam and the headlight switch isn't knackered, try tinkering with the starter motor switch. I've found that occasionally it can trigger the headlight relay to open, but not cause the starter to engage. No idea why you'd get one happen without the other, mind you, unless just tapping the switch as opposed to pressing it doesn't give enough time for the solenoid to drop.....

wiring all seems grand. did the tests with the multi meter and looks like the relay is shafted. thanks thunderace, my electrical skills are not much to shout about, lol

Give the relay a good thump (but not TOO hard) before condemning it...
