nc24 rocker arm spring question
Hi I had my engine out my bike yesterday to fit the rear exhaust properly and as the exhaust was off I figered I would take the sump off to check the filter gauze anyway on removal I found a piece of u shaped metal in there that had broke off somewhere. So after that I thought I would check my valves on inspection I found that this bit of metal had broke off on the front cylinder exhaust valve it is like a spring that sits over the rocker arm. Anyway what I would like to know is if running the engine will cause any ill effects with this bit missing the engine has been running well with this in the sump so im lucky it didnt kill itself. And also what this bit does as all the rocker have the same piece over them and if anyone knows what could have caused this to happen. Any ideas would be great thanks

Re: nc24 rocker arm spring question
If I found a bit in the bottom of my engine, it wouldn't turn over under it's own power again until I'd found out what it was and replaced it. I've had a quick look at the parts diagram on cmsnl.com at it would seem at a guess that one of the spring sections has sheared off the rocker spring plate. I'm not quite sure what this does, although I would hazard a guess it makes sure the rocker arm only makes proper contact with the valve when the cam presses it and stops flapping about of it's own free will at other times. Probably part 11 on the diagram. The bad news is that the part is dead and buried according to both CMS and DSS, so you'd be looking at a scrappy for a spare I guess. I'd be seriously worried about running the engine without it. The valve spring should keep the valve closed, but if any other forces somehow managed to cause the rocker to open the valve out of sequence the results would likely be extremely nasty. Cue and NC24 expert to tell me it happens all the time and not to worry....

Hi yeah I would have to agree with the last post and yes it is part 11 on the cmsnl part diagram. and ive been using it with that bit floating around in the engine for god knows how long and it didnt kill it and as its my only transport I havent got alot of choice but to use it. And I would post a pic but I dont know how to
