Boiling over?

Post by iDemonix » Sun Aug 05, 2012 6:16 pm

Went to Matlock today on an Air Ambulance charity ride from 125cc forums, was a good laugh, but on the way there I got a bit lost on my own in some villages, very stop start and glorious sunshine means the bike got fairly hot. Not in to the red, but past 90 about the middle of the gauge pushing 2/3's at some points.

I've had this a few times and need to investigate the fan etc as she gets hot quickly when sat, but this has been happening for a while whenever I get in to this sort of hot situation:

Excuse shit pic, garage was dark, had to use crappy phone flash.

When I pulled up, there was some steam coming from the front road, looked to be from the rad cap, not billowing but enough to condensate up my clocks and screen. This hasn't happened before, even when I've pulled over in the red to stop it overheating.

Leaky rad cap? Coolant hose degrading where it meets top rad? Rad leak?

Maybe I should jump on that Samco hose group buy!

Maybe your thermostat is on its way out not opening properly so then your coolant isnt doing the full circuit to cool down?

Just an idea :D

Hard to make out from pic, either rad cap f*cked or clamp not tightening on the pipe?

Where the over flow pipe is on the rad, is it loose, does it rotate?
Get a pair of pliers and see if it is loose.......

New rad cap and that clip on the overflow hose looks past its best. Is your fan coming on at all? I run a set of geoff's rads, samco's and no fan rarely get any problems as long as im not sat under 30mph for too long.
