Hi,

I'm new and bought an NC30 a couple of months ago. Have had a few little problems with it which I'm working my way through to get it running good.

I've removed and began cleaning the carbs following this guide which has been very useful.

I noticed that the air filter was just a wire mesh and that the main filter material had been cut out so I've bought a new filter to replace it. I'm guessing someone did this to allow more air (and dirt) into the engine?

I've also just noticed that the main jets are all 114's. However the guide states that early NC30's from Japan were 110's all round while older ones ran 115 front 118 rear.

Now I'm a complete carb virgin so need a little help. Basically I need to know if I should keep the 114's even though I've fitted a proper air filter, or do I order some new ones, if so which ones am I going to need?

Is it a case that the smaller the main jet size the leaner it runs or the other way around?

The bikes standard except for an akrapovic carbon slipon.

If someone could share their wisdom I would be very happy!

I'll order some new bits from Rick Oliver, including the NC30/35 stainless carb allen screw kit as I've had to drill most of the old ones out!

hi, well im no carb expert, but i too did my carbs following cammo's guide, i fitted 120f and 118r, i also raised the needles with the 1mm shims and drilled the sides. the bike is much more responsive through the rev range and no longer suffers with the midrange flat spot. i too have an aftermarket end can and i have to say that set up works beautifuly, couldnt reccomend it enough to be honest. i ordered all the parts from rick o, including a replacement fuel tank vent pipe and it came to just over a tenner delivered, and that was for 4 new jets, the shims and the new tank vent pipe.. bargain!
good luck..

yeah he's still going strong! check out the thread in the v4 section, entitled the 'rick oliver parts list' if you havent already! keep the photos coming along its always good to see the nc's getting some much deserved love.
oh and the part in the guide about refitting the carbs, its true! took me about ten minutes of fun, but be patient, they came off so they will go back on again!!
