NC35 refitted cleaned carbs.... fuel leaking out of overflow
ok, i finally got the carbs back on tonight, connected up a remote gravity fed fuel tank (not the bikes tank ) connected it to the main fuel hose, and theres fuel overflowing out of the 2 top carb overflow pipes, and what sounds like into the inlets.... what have I done wrong? and im guessing the carbs are gonna need removing and opening up again!?!

Re: NC35 refitted cleaned carbs.... fuel leaking out of over
i have no idea if it makes a difference from proper tank or gravity fed tank.. but i have read that the floats can stick, causing fuel to overflow. or improperly set float height...
if their sticking a gentle tap on the carbs can sometime sort it...
there is also a good template you can make using a credit card to set the float heights to correct setting on here too.
saying all this, i am by no means an expert. just repeating what i have learnt on here.

+1
If you havent thrown your float heights way out, sometimes they stick when your putting them back together.
Either a soft tap with a rubber mallot is worth a try, or pull it all back out and refit it again.
Last time it happened to me, my back two cylinders compression locked on start up after putting everything back together.

Re: NC35 refitted cleaned carbs.... fuel leaking out of over
Thanks guys, that makes sense, after further investigation, number 2 cylinder is full of fuel.... awesome!
whats the best thing to do? I can stick a syringe down with a tube on and get most of the fuel outo of the inlet tract, but Im guessing the cylinder will also be full, if the valves are partially open? Do I need to hand turn the engine over with the plugs out, and then use the syringe down the plug hole?

If you have a cyl full of fuel, you need to get the oil changed out as well. The fuel will move past the rings and dilute the oil....don't ask me how I know!

Yeah....I didn't edit that! I also like how it lines up with the earlier statement about not needing a rear brake...

Re: NC35 refitted cleaned carbs.... fuel leaking out of over
i had the same proble mate, i tapped all the carbs with a rubber mallet n screw driver and it stopped the overflow....... and prob had a sticky shut of valve too, sorted with a general tapping .
i used an auxilry tank too, gravity feed. i feared i most likely flooded a cylinder, i just run it up to clear it out lol am i fk taking her apart again to remove the buried plugs on these things!! lol
