NC35 Brake Overhaul

Hey guys

looking at cleaning and overhauling the brakes on the NC35

I ve just brought the piston and dust seals.

I have four 06451-KV3-405 and four 06451-KV3-406 and cant figure out what the difference is between the two part numbers. From what i can see the 2 seals in 06451-KV3-405 are the same as the seals in the 06451-KV3-406.

Any help and tips on overhauling would also be appreciated.

Hey guys found the answer one set is slightly larger than the other.

Any tips on rebuilding guys?

if i remember correctly, each piston hole has 2 seals, when you remove the piston from the caliper you will clearly see which is which.
do one caliper at a time or at least keep all the bits from each caliper seperate.
soak the new seals in a little brake fluid first to soften them up.
a dremel is very helpful for cleaning the grooves for the new seals. or toothbrush or toothpick.. be careful not to damage the grooves..
paraffin is good for cleaning.. but make sure they are clean and dry before rebuilding...
once the new seals are in place, brake fluid round the piston and in the bore should help slide the new piston in smoothly..

Plus don't use anything steel to clean out the bores, unless it's a fine pick and your being careful.

I used some tiny brass wire wheels on the end of my dads knackered power drill (search for them on ebay), worked a treat. 16 seal slots all cleaned out in 25 minutes.

Just rebuilt the calipers on my NC30. A good tip I recommend is to polish the pistons up using a polishing kit you can attach to a drill. Just buff them slightly so they have that mirror finish back, when you put them back in the calipers they will be really easy to move in and out, this will reduce the risk of sticky pistons.
