Nc24 into Nc21

Post by driftkart » Tue Dec 20, 2011 5:36 pm

I have a gokart with a NC21 Motor etc in it..

Only problem is the chain came off and smashed the outer casing on gearbox and made quite a mess, Ive got my hand's on a Nc24 motor to replace it with but have read there are quite some difference's.

Im changing to the nc24 clutch setup due to the chain smasing the nc21 setup..Thats that sorted.

My question is will my nc21 carb fit the nc24 motor?

Is my nc21 loom etc going to work fine with the nc24 motor if not how do i get around this?

Thanks in advance.

Erm.

No they won't. Not straightforwardly anyway.

The NC21 uses 30mm carbs, the NC24 32mm.

They should still fit as it's the ID thats different, but the rubbers are slightly different part numbers depending on what set of carbs you had on the bike. (Depending on year and model different NC21's and 24's for that matter had different carbs and jets)

This isn't a major issue anyway.. bolt them on and see how they run.

The loom isn't going to work without modding..

The ignition boxes are totally different... some of the plugs are different too... namely the one down by the neutral switch.. I can't remember off hand but it has 5 or so wires.. it's different on the NC21 and NC24 so you'll need to cut and solder wires. Maybe different colors too but you should be able to match them up.. it's been done before.

However, i've never tried to run an NC21 loom and ECU with an NC24 engine.

Try it and see what happens... might run... the cams / pistons and what not were changed slightly between the NC21 and NC24 so maybe it's likely that the ignition box runs a different advance and map.. it'll probably run once you fix the plug that won't fit but it might not be as sweet as it would with an NC24 loom and ECU.

Using different looms for engines came up a while ago:

viewtopic.php?f=24&t=27201&p=196419#p196419

The NC21 engine has cam timing sensors which the NC24 doesn't have, without the right input an NC21 ECU will never work.

The simplest answer is to get a '24 loom and ECU to go with the '24 motor. Probably not the cheapest option but it'll stop a lot of heartache and wondering why it doesn't run...
