Oil Change Question NC30

Post by mattiec321 » Sun Dec 11, 2011 11:28 am

Hi there chaps n chapesses.

I've changed to oil on the bike today, but am wondering where to take the dipstick reading from.

Screwed in or dropped from the bottom thread of the dipper?

Answers please.

Thanks

Matt

Don't screw it in, just rest it.

Make sure bike is on level ground and upright.

Well answered Neo, I've been doing it wrong for years.
Apparently it is also a daily check. Personally can't see the point unless you are planning to ride it......

I'd call it an 'End of Day Check' as it's not supposed to be done from cold, but as the engine's warming down.

I've always measured my oil (car/bike/etc) on level ground COLD - thought engine cold was the time to measure?

Common Service Manual from Honda says to check oil run engine at idle for a few minutes, stop engine and wait 2-3 minutes and then measure oil level without screwing the dip stick into the crankcase. Also says to follow any model specific owner's manual instructions.

Do not know of an English version of the owner's manual for NC30, so I run with the Common Service Manual.

Does anyone know of or have a copy of an English owner's manual.

CRM, are you referring to the service manual? If so, I have a copy but cannot find any reference to oil change procedure in the maintenance section. We here in oz have little or no documentary support for the 400 v4s which is why I have relied on the Honda Common Service Manual when I cannot find the answer in the service manual.

Thanks CRM, the advantage of a factory supported import. In oz Honda does not recognize these bikes, no help what so ever with spares or documentation.
