Hi
Is the main bearing on a NC30's output shaft serviceable? Parts fiche lists the shaft and bearing as one part?
I have been cleaning some rust off the end of mine (the shaft) and when I spin the bearing, it feels a little rough. It has been out of the engine for a couple of weeks during the rebuild, so I am hoping/wondering if it might just be a bit of surface rust or dirt in there, rather than the bearing needing replacement!
Cheers
Luke

Shouldn't get surface rust in the bearing, should be greased i'd imagine.lukemillar wrote:Hi

Any roughness in bearings and I throw them away and replace, its false economy otherwise.
If you clean out the bearing with some kerosene to remove the grease you should be able to feel how it spins. Is there much play in it?

You're preaching to the converted! This is what I would be inclined to do. The problem is that the bearing isn't listed separately- Just as part of the whole output shaft (which isn't available anyway)Neosophist wrote:Any roughness in bearings and I throw them away and replace, its false economy otherwise.
Yep - this is plan B. There is no play in the bearing whatsoever (fairly low mileage bike);it's just a slight roughness as it spins. Hopefully a good clean will fix it.Neosophist wrote:If you clean out the bearing with some kerosene to remove the grease you should be able to feel how it spins. Is there much play in it?

Re: NC30 Output shaft main bearing
not sure what the bearing looks like, but if its a sealed one put it in the bin. If its not sealed a good wash in petrol and its good to use (as you say there is no play)

This bearing is lubricated buy the gearbox oil,it should be ok just give it a wash out.
