upgrading a jap nc30,s headlamps
ive just bought a nc30 vfr400 and the lights are crap, even high beam isnt that bright
ive been doing a bit of digging around and found a bitt conflicting info, now i think i have it sussed but wanted to confirm before i go ahead
is it a case of fitting a relay as per the thread below
http://www.vsource.org/VFR-RVF_files/NC ... mRelay.htm
and fitting these bulbs
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HQ-HONDA-VFR- ... 1973767879
or is there more to it than im lead to believe
thanks in advance

Re: upgrading a jap nc30,s headlamps
The high beam will be no brighter, unless your current bulbs are knackered. (Are you headlights clean an aimed properly)
Check what bulbs are in it first. They will be marked.
35/60w are H4R (Japanese spec bulbs)
55/60w are H4 UK spec bulbs.
All you need to do is fit a relay as described then either mod the bulb or the headlight to make it fit in.

hi neo you might have the answer for this one , im running a suzuka front end so one headlight is removed , my question is would i be ok to run a uk spec bulb without the relay mod as im only running 1 llight and not 2 so in theory 2 jap 35w bulbs omitted for 1 uk 55w bulb, im thinking this would not fry the switchgear as its under the 70w to run a pair of jap specs , (does this make sense )

I've ran a single headlight for 6 years and not melted my switchgear...
I also used to run PIAA super bright lamps..but that died.
I now run Jap lamps..so it doesn't quite answer it..though basically for a long time I ran overpowered lamps in my bike on single headlight and it was bob on.

Both should have a high beam...so you have a duff lamp in there.
The low beams are dim @ std jap spec

Deviant400 you are correct, provided the wattage of your single headlamp is less than that of the OEM twin setup the switch gear will be ok.

Philips Xtreeme are really AWESOME bulbs.. I can't stress how good they are over standard bulbs (which is why they always win What Car bulb of the year.leerc wrote:excellent so i may not need to upgrade after all,i probably will tho lights are one thing i like to be as good as possible
They do H4 55/60 watt and a larger watt for 'race' use.
However, the race-use are not UV coated so might burn your headlamps but are really bright... the standard H4's are great.
