CLUTCH ADVICE

Running RVF 400
All running well apart from changing gear is hard
Heard this can happen with these bikes and just 'normal'
However, if bike is not running, and i put into first gear and pull clutch in, it is hard to move the bike back or forth, takes a couple back n forths to 'free' it but it still has bite on it.
I have tried adjusting clutch cable but no joy

With the bike running, its a bit clunky knocking it into first, and difficult to change gear, smooth with a little revs still on while applyin clutch.
The clutch doesnt slip at all during running in any gear right up to 15k

Any ideas? Just a case of new clutch cable? anyone had similar problems? New Clutch?

My nc30 clutch never dragged but the nc35 one did.

I stripped the clutch, expecting to find a warped steel plate, worn clutch basket 'fingers' or simillar but everything was fine.

What I did find was that even with the clutch released, the plates were sticking tightly together. I took all the plates out, cleaned them with an old towel and degreaser and put it all back togther - much better. I don't know what causes oil to get 'sticky' on plates but that seemed to be what had happened to me.

Assuming the clutch cable is pulling ok you're going to need to look at the clutch itself. Make sure you order a new gasket before you start and you also need a castle socket to remove the clutch nut (same as swing arm bolt etc, buy or make one). plenty of 'how to's' on here

I had major slip on mine and replaced the friction plates, gasket and oil which fixed it.

Before you go taking it apart though as it can cost a fair bit for a new gasket, new oil and possibly new plates, try lots of variations of cable adjustment first. Don't forget there's an adjuster on the left side of the engine casing too.
