7years without getting leg over my NC30

Post by Hissing sid » Thu Jul 14, 2011 5:50 pm

Finally getting my NC30 over to my new garage after getting divorced from the blood sucking leach, Its been 7 years since I last rode my NC30, I have frequently run her up to fan cut in temp

decided to do the following to her, hopefully she will forgive me for neglecting her

1) Oil and filter change
2) Air filter and sub air filter change
3) Strip and clean carbs, using Cammo's guide
4) Strip and clean forks
5) New front wheel bearings
6) Strip out rear shock and linkages, inspect and re grease where required
7) Coolant flush and change
8) Inspect spark plugs
9) Check Valve clearances
10) New Batt and check regulator/rectifier unit
11)Clean out tank
12) New vac hose
13) Strip and clean brakes, new hoses (HEL) and new fresh fluid
14) I've got a spare rear wheel, tempted to get a spare front and get them re powder coated, have a set for winter use and a set for summer use!!!
15) NEW TYRES!!! LOL

anything else u can think of??

regards
Neil B

SEVEN YEARS. YOU SHOULD BE ON YOUR KNEES, SINNER!

I should talk though, I've done less than 500 miles from one MOT to the next.
Bless me Father for I have sinned...................................

Mick,
I am on my knees begging foregivness

Our father, who art in leather Kevin Schwantz be his name Thy corner come Thy kneedown will be done In smooth tarmac is are heaven Give us sunny days our daily ride For give us our wheelies As we forgive those who wheelie against us And lead us into the redline; but keep us from Police who are evil. [Fo...r thine is the wheelie, the power, and the stoppie, for ever and ever.] Av it!!.

Amen

New Tyres would be the best thing.. over 6 years old and they go hard and rubbish.. you can find when they were made on the side (4 digit code) ie.. 2402 means made in 24th week of 2002.

Dont' want to crash it becuase of shitty rubber.

And Kev Schwantz was good but i'd change it to Mick Doohan ;)

Definitely new tyres, and oils but I'd be doing things on a need only basis. Stranger things have happened but your battery might be ok for now, fork seals aren't forced to be shot.

Change the engine oil, tyres, anti freze and brake fluid, get it mot'd and enjoy it after 7 years.
Anything else rears it ugly head do it ad hock until winter when you can give it an overhaul should you desire ;)
P.s I go through a rear a year and I'm a fair weather rider, once I get out I dont want to get off

would the carbs not need a good cleaning after such a break from use??

I've got in my garage the following parts for her
oil and filter
both air filters
fork oil
coolant
brake fluid
HEL braided hoses
Font wheel bearings

I'm guessing I could change all of them, wouldnt take more than a day, get some new hoops fitted at Doncaster Motorcycles and MOT then enjoy her for a few months
I may take her upto Squires on the 27th July if I can get her ready by then
god shes gonna feel slow compared to my VFR 750!!!

cheers

Neil B :-)
