More questions, sorry!

My throttle action is very sluggish, it certainly doesn't ping back, the top accelerator cable is a pain to adjust it almost sems to have a knackered threadon the adjuster at the "right" point. However I also think the dece;lerator cable may be stopping it coming back as quickly as it might.

Is it possible, or even advisable to remove it and run with the top cable only?

i installed a quick action throttle and went down to just the accellerator cable and a year on and no adverse effects yet, i don't know if it is adivseable though. i did have to clean the handle bar under the throttle and greased it and greased the accellerator cable, that helped it ping back to position quickly

Several people on the forum are using a single 'pull' cable with good results...

...and I'm set up with a single cable (on a MX throttle) but I'm not on the road yet so I can't say for sure whether it's adequate.

I keep thinking that Honda wouldn't have designed the throttle pulley with two cables without a good reason, though...

This isn't fixing the problem though.

From the factory they were fine with both cables (technically you can run it with one anyhow.)

It's comprised of 3 parts.

The throttle grip.
The cables
The carbs.


It is most likely to be down to cables, these are either siezed up... or badly routed.

Well I'm pretty certain the routing is right, the throttle linkage on the carbs is fine, when the carbs are off I can open the throttle and it springs back shut fine.

So it must be the cables, or the grip, lubrication is in order I guess.

I've found that the cable routing is critical on VFR's, you have to get it right or you'll struggle forever with a notchy throttle. New cables, and plenty of oil dripped down them, is a big help too.

Removed tank, airbox etc to gain access to the cables at the carb end.

Double checked routing, it seems OK, although there does appear to be a bit more of a bend than I would have expected where it leaves the carb and goes through the plastic guide over the top rad'.

Anyhow with everything off it was slightly better

It actually apperas to be the throttle rubber grip almost binding on the bar end, when I move it up a bit it seems fine, roll it back, so there's a lot of clearance betwwen the rubber and the bar end and it snaps back more like I would expect, so it's either out with the stanley knife or go for a new rubber grip

I cut a thin piece from an old throttle tube and stuck it under the end of the grip to stop it binding.
