Electrical probs. what does this wire do

I'm always asking for help on this forum it seems. It's what happens when you buy a dog of a bike.

Anyway. Have a bit of a prob with the electrics. As I mentioned my bike is an abused dog, plenty of chopped wires everywhere. Now to solve my prolems of no spark I have replaced the reg/rectifier and the whole damn loom. now comparing the two looms I have noticed one or two things. (1) a lot of chopped wires around the icu at the back (2) one that is really confusing me, the lack of a red one on the left hand side of the engine. It just isn't there on the old loom.

Looking for the following answers, is there some reason for the wire mod at the back and what does it do. Also where does the red wire go?

I would maybe try and get some pictures up of the loom and the wires you are talking about , it may help people to identify the wires and help you

See the problem is that I am a lowly college student. When the bike broke down it did so at home 100miles away so it is a little unaccessable till the weekend when I go back. As I say, it is on the left hand side of the engine, the only red capped round female teminal on it's own

Red will be to do with the ignition switch

Red or Red with Black Stripe i believe

Red with white stripe is from Reg/Rec to the main fuse

Ta for that, red and ignition switch are down the lines of my thinking ( I had a thought that it might have something to do with either the ignition or just a ground point(in the overall context that is)). I just can't fimd the terminal where the red female plug should fit into.

No standard red wires are fitted with a female spade plug, a previous owner must have modified it.

Get some pictures up over the weekend of it and it will be simple to sort.

don't think it's anything quite like that. it seems like the wire should be there. By that I mean it doesn't look as if the loom has been tampered with in any way. The plug doesn't appear to have been sourced from any of the other connections.

this isnt shouting i have to use CAPS to do some work documents for the system to recognise stuff,
sometimes i forget to turn it off and half way through i cannot be arsed to retype!
