Gday All,
Im after a bit of help, i have a rather loud bearing noise coming from the engine cover on the throttle side of the motor, the pitch of the noise doesnt change when reving the motor or when it is up in the temperature.

So it doesnt sound like a big end is playing up, is there any other check ups i should be doing before i crack open the covers and investigate??

This is my first 400 since moving on from NSR's and any help would be awesome,

Crack the rocker box covers off and have a look.. there only 4 bolts holding them on.

Not to get you too alarmed but it does sound a little worrying.. these little engines are bullet proof... However, extended wheelies can cause oil starvation due to the location of the oil pickup so the topend runs dry which then wears.. could be a worn camshaft, or it could just be noisy valve-train.

Have you got an engine stethescope? If not use a long screwdriver, put the tip of the screwdriver on the block and put your ear to the handle to hear better noise... see if you can pin it down where it is then crack the covers and have a look :-)

The cams are gear-driven and the gears are in the centre so doesn't sound like that...

Let me know what you find kinggy. I'm worried mine may have the same problem.
