I'm new to this so please bare with me.

Ok,

So i've had the bike a year, Never any problems with starting.

I took the bike in to get a standard rear silencer re fitted as it had an aftermarket race can on.

the bike was fine,

I booked a track day and decided i wanted a race can re fitted so i bought a new one from ebay which stated the bike wouldn't need re jetting for it to work.

I picked up the bike from the garage, it started but felt very underpowered. I reved it up to 7000 rpm a couple of times, it back fired then cut out. After this it wouldn't even come close to running. In fact the starter motor would just spin with no fire up.

Because i hadn't realised these bikes do not like throttle when starting, i believe i flooded it. hmm

SO,
i looked on here and asked around , checked the fuel to carbs. ..fine
checked spark fine but weak
they were oily though.
cleaned the plugs and put it back together.

still wouldn't start from electric start up.

Then i decided to try to bump start it. IT Worked. :) ( which was lucky as i had booked a track day the next day.) SO happy

i left it running until warm then turned it off. all good..

Then,
Got to the track the next day. fired the bike up. NO problems.
Done 5 sessions without any problems however the bike didn't feel as fast throughout the whole rev range as it used to.

Sixth session the bike died. same problem as when i tried to pull it out the garage, now it just won't start.

Tried removing the plugs and cleaning them as they were black. and a bit oily towards the top end of the thread near the nut that tightens them in. (?)

i adjusted the spark clearances at the end of the plugs to the correct 0.7mm
i tried for spark again on all four plugs, the were firing but intermittently. sometimes working sometimes not. i tried changing plugs around. I'm just getting a mixed bag of sparks. very temperamental.

could it be the coils? or the leads? or plugs.. or the lot.

Any help would be appreciated.. I'm thinking change the plugs, leads, and coils packs front and back.

I want to get this running pronto as I've bought an R6 and need to sell the NC.

Have you checked the battery charge?
I think i would take it back to the shop that did the exhaust and re-jet as it seems that the issue started once they had done work on it.
Do you know what they did at the garage? just change the jets?

yea battery is charged, no probs with that

the shop didnt touch the jetting, and it worked after cleaning plugs..

they only changed the exhaust. but i've had it running after that.

There is your problem...

Sounds like it could be electrical - do the charging and output checks in the service manual/haynes and see what you get.

You do need to rejet for std<>race can. did the garage not do anything with it jetting wise?

Anyways, no the garage didn't do any re jetting the exhaust was advertised as didn't need re jetting.. hmmm.

do i need a voltmeter to check the outputs etc. ?

My mechanical knowledge is very limited,

i may have to take it to a local garage thats capable of getting it goin and re jetting it etc.

i was just about to order new plugs to see how that goes.. i don't want to waste any money on coil packs etc if it doesn't need them.

if i take it to the dealer do you think they'll hammer me?

Sounds like you've knackered the plugs 1 too many times to me. Oiled up or wet plugs are a good sign they're close to death.

You may want to check the pilot screws and jetting before you fit the new plugs, if the carbs are running way too rich you'll just kill another set of plugs.

Do you know what sized jets are in your carbs?

Do you still have the standard can? Is your current can welded on?

I think you're right, the plugs were really black when i took em out after track day.. and they'd been removed and cleaned just before.. thats after about an hour and a half of hard riding..

i don;t know how to check pilots or what the jets are currently, i do have an old exhaust i could back on though.
would that be easier than re jetting. ?

Anyone know any reliable garages in newcastle or close by i could take it to?

If you had a setup where you knew it worked well then I'd revert back to that instead of trying to get the jetting correct - you may have to pull the carbs on and off a few times to get it right.
Saying that, they're both relatively easy jobs to do.
