Post by DK-Tandy » Thu May 19, 2011 10:41 pm

how can i tell if my bike is running rich or lean without taking it on a dyno...

would a dyno actually help even though im restricted to 33bhp?

How do you know the fuelling is out - what are the symptoms?

does anyone have a more practical way?

is there any machines which can be used to tell whether my bike is rich or lean?

lambda probe . . . exactly for that operation. used in FI to adjust the injection time. a value of 1.0 is perfect . . . > 1.0 is rich , . . <1.0 is lean . . .or vice versa, cant remember

What sized jets are in it?

Carbs with 33hp restrictors are never going to perform too well in my opinion, all parts and settings are designed to fuel for for much more air than what the restrictors allow through.

Hopefully you can improve the fuelling by reducing main jet size etc, but it will never be spot on with the restrictors fitted.

You could also try increasing the float height setting (lowering fuel level in the bowl) which will lean up most of the range, but it seems like a lot of stuffing around to me for the short while that you need it restricted.

thats fair enough, im the same , i needto read it a few time to sort of get it to stick lol but honestly mate, read up on some simple carb tuning and how they work etc. once you understand that, it makes it easier to understand jetting...rich or lean and how to correct.

that artical i posted has some real good points/tips and signs to watch for lean/rich. worth a read.

shaun

hope you get it sorted whatever it is.
