CB400 NC36 rear wheel rotted!
Hi all
I don't know how, but somehow the rear wheel on my bike has rotted through in between the spokes! Anyway, long story short, it won't pass its MOT so I need a new rear wheel, for cheap!
So my question is, does anyone know where I can source a rear wheel (rim + spokes) for a CB400 NC36? I've had the mechanic check and he can't find the part number on the wheel itself, only the size... Suggestions?
cheers!

nc36 is stupidly rare in the UK, so you won't likely find a used wheel anywhere. If you ever do find a new one it'll cost you proper Honda prices, and it's unlikely that you ever would unless you somehow figured out that it fit a more common bike.Ypnos wrote:Hi all

Your best bet is likely to be to approach somewhere like Talon or Hagon who do spoked wheel building, and have the wheel rebuilt upon the existing hub but with stainless spokes and an alloy or stainless rim.

Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have any websites or contact details for those two places? Cheers!

I've never used such services so can't give a personal recommendation. You might be better off going to ask on a more general motorbike forum, or one for supermotos will definitely know.Ypnos wrote:Thanks for the quick reply! Do you have any websites or contact details for those two places? Cheers!

Used these chaps for the front and rear wheels on my 1978 400/4, top service!
Thoroughly recommended...
How is your rim rotted already? Is this on the outside of the rim or inside??

Awesome, thank you!
It's rotted between the spokes apparently. No idea how, even the mechanic was shocked...

I'll get some photos as soon as I see the thing (it's in the shop)
Central quoted me £233, which is far too much for a wheel imo. I'm going to the breaker's tomorrow to see if a CB400SF wheel (3-spoke) will fit. Do you know if it will fit (or one from another bike)?

I have a spare CB-1 3-spoke rear wheel with an Avon with loads of tread left. I can probably take measurements for you this weekend. It might be next weekend, depending on some friends who are visiting, but it'll be soon. You'll spoil the look of the bike by having mismatched wheels, though. The front CB-1 wheel will be no good as it's single-disc.
Off the top of my head I remember it uses a 17mm axle, and that the chain-side spacer is a bit longer than the brake side. Wheels are quite tricky to measure as there are more than a couple of important dimensions!
If you could collect from Portsmouth you could take it away for minimal funds, and maybe just use it as a stopgap so you could send your wheel away somewhere for rebuilding.

Hmmm!!
I'm in Blackburn, but I'm actually visiting friends in Surrey this weekend as it happens! Will it definitely fit?
